Flo and Ann's Wedding

I'm finally getting around to posting about the original inspiration for our trip to Europe. Florian and Ann were married on June 18, 2011! We were so fortunate to be able to attend this joyous occasion.

The night before at dinner.

Mama and Papa looking snazzy.

Husband and I.

After the ceremony. Flo and Ann with their parents.

Hilarious game they played. Sven would ask a question like "Who's the better driver?" and they would raise the shoe of the person they thought was it. It was very funny...especially when they didn't raise the same shoe!

Achim, Brian and Jan.

Brian and the newlyweds.

The only real difference I saw between German weddings and American weddings was that they played games, and that it went very late. I had Phil take me back to the hotel room at midnight because I was exhausted. At that point they hadn't even had the first dance yet. Brian didn't get back until almost 4am!! I'm glad that he had a good time though, and I enjoyed it as well.

Congratulations Flo and Ann!

Other Adventures Abroad

My first kebab! Can't believe I missed out on these last time we were here! It's sliced beef, lettuce, onions, tzatiki sauce with chili powder, tomatoes, and other yummy things.

Nom nom nom.

Beautiful pictures of the German countryside as we walked up a hill to visit this tomb of some King and his family members...forgot his name.

Looking out towards the inner city of Stuttgart

Enjoying a beer at our favorite restaurant in Plieningen...the Garbe!

Detour to Rosenstein park after we realized that the Neckar Boat Tours were closed on Mondays...

Shopping on Konigstasse is always an adventure. Here's some live entertainment!

Wilhelma Zoo

Here are some pictures of our visit to the Wilhelma Zoo last week. One of my favorite zoos ever!

By the way, I had my mom dye my hair red before I left for Germany. I think it looks quite nice! It's not permanent and will wash out in about a month, but it's nice to do something fun once in awhile.

More posts and pictures to come soon hopefully, but we have limited internet bandwidth here and blogger is a bit of a hog. And so is my World of Warcrafting husband! Only 5 more days until I have to return and leave my husband behind to study...

Proverbs 31 Woman

I really enjoyed this post by minimomist - wanted to link to it here. It's a lovely examination of the Proverbs 31 woman (a woman I strive to be like) in modern terms.

10 A wife of noble character who can find?  She is worth far more than rubies.
A wife of noble character, who can find?  Were she to be paid for all she does, her income would be around $140,000.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  Her husband trusts her completely, knowing that she is strong and smart enough to take care of everything she has been entrusted.
12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life She doesn’t talk bad about him, embarrass him, or make him regret he married her.  She is his equal in every way.
13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.  She chooses quality products and works with them to create things of value for her home.
14 She is like the merchant ships bringing her food from afar.  She seeks out the best deals and shops around, never doing all her shopping in one place.  She supports local farmers and buys healthy, nutritious foods.
15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.  She’s up early, and makes sure that all her appliances are in working order, and has them repaired promptly so they don’t get worse.
16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.  She is frugal, and doesn’t waste money on frivolous things.  She doesn’t run up credit cards and put her family into financial danger.
17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. Out of her savings, she runs a side business, and makes good choices, so that she turns a nice profit, thus contributing to the household income.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,  and her lamp does not go out at night. She is keenly aware of what her household income is, and makes sure they live within their means.  She doesn’t let the electric bill go unpaid, thus resulting in the home losing power.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She can fix things when they’re broken – sew on a button, repair a zipper, unfreeze the computer, and unclog the toilet.
20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. She doesn’t shirk from charities, donating clothes, foods, and time to the different causes.  She donates money as she has it available, as well as visits those who need her cheering up.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. When it snows, her children are clothed in warm coats and good shoes, which she got on sale last year at the end of the season.  She’ll also has a backlog of summer shorts and t-shirts ready for the summer season when they go on sale at the beginning of winter.
22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. Her bedroom is warm and inviting, an oasis of peace and tranquility for herself and her husband to enjoy.  Not necessarily crowded with pillows and frills, but clean, comfortable, and clear.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. She didn’t marry a slouch.  She married a man who recognized her abilities and can keep up with them.  He too is a man of quality, her equal in every sense.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. She provides a service to others outside of her home, whether it be something handmade, some act of compassion or some form of charity.  In any case, she is not stuck at home twiddling her thumbs.  She sees a need and she fills it.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She’s confident in her abilities, and knows what to look for.  When snowed in, she breaks out puzzles and board games.  When the power goes out, she grabs a box of candles.  When things get busy, she has a freezer full of healthy homemade meals.
26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. People come to her for advice, and she speaks to them of the Bible and it’s teachings.  She knows her Scripture and has a knack for helping others when they need her.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. She doesn’t get bored, as there is too much to do!  She manages her home well, and keeps everyone in line.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Her children have been taught to appreciate all her hard work, and tell her “Thanks mom!” and “I love you, mom” on a regular basis.  Her husband is proud to call her his wife.
29 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” “There are lots of women out there who are just as skilled and confident as you are, my love,” he says to her, “but you are the perfect woman for me and our household.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. You can only be cute and sweet so long before it starts to get old; and gravity is not a friend to our bodies; but a woman who follows the instructions of our Lord is admired by her friends and family.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. So give her credit where credit is due, and give her praise.  Don’t hinder her, and let her run, free and strong, so she can richly bless her family.
